Tell HQ how you get paid, and which sidebar items you see
Updated
The sidebar has one item for each way your business gets paid. The rest of it (Dashboard, Expenses, Banking, Accounting, Reports, Documents) is the same for every business, because every business keeps the same books.
What makes an item show
- Ecommerce shows when a Shopify or WooCommerce store is connected, when you tick Online store, or when a store you disconnected has orders or payouts in your current fiscal year. Stripe, Square and PayPal are payment companies, not stores, so they never bring this item.
- Invoicing shows unless it has been switched off for your account.
- Subscriptions shows when your connected Stripe account has subscriptions, when you tick Subscriptions, or when a Stripe account you disconnected has subscription activity in your current fiscal year.
A business that gets paid more than one way shows more than one item. They keep the same order and only appear or disappear.
Answer the question
On a computer, go to Ledger › Setup, the Business tab. On your phone, open More. Both ask How do you get paid? and both save the same answer, so the sidebar and the phone cannot disagree. Tick every way that applies:
- Online store
- In person, at a till or counter. HQ has no In store page yet, so this adds nothing to your sidebar for now.
- Invoices for jobs
- Subscriptions
- Card payments
Until you answer, the ticks show what HQ can already see. Your answer only ever adds: unticking something that is connected does not hide it.
On your phone the answer also sets the fourth tab. If you have no online store and no jobs, it is Sales. See Email a customer, find an order and check payouts on your phone.
After you disconnect
An item stays while it has history in your current fiscal year, so disconnecting does not put the year out of reach. It goes in your next fiscal year, unless you tick the answer or reconnect.
After a store is disconnected, the Ecommerce Overview still shows that year's sales that reached your books. Orders and the other tabs that read from the store list connected stores only, so they stay empty until you reconnect it, and a line at the top of each says so. HQ has kept the orders. For Stripe, see See your Stripe subscribers and monthly recurring revenue.
