How much sales tax do I charge on orders shipped to Quebec
A taxable sale made in Quebec carries two taxes: 5% GST and 9.975% QST, Quebec's own sales tax. Each is worked out on the price before tax, so QST is not charged on the GST. On a $100 order that is $5.00 of GST and $9.98 of QST (Revenu Québec rounds a half cent up), $114.98 in all. These are the rates in force on the date below.
QST is administered by Revenu Québec under its own registration, separate from a GST/HST number. A sale made in Quebec means, for goods you ship, broadly a sale delivered to a customer there: see which province's tax applies when you ship.
Where it gets specific to you
Whether QST reaches your sales at all depends on where your business is and how much you sell into Quebec, and there is a separate system for sellers outside the province: see do I need to worry about QST. Which of those applies is a question for your accountant. Once your book is set up for QST, TALISK_HQ records it beside GST, so a Quebec registrant's worksheet carries both.
