Talisk HQ vs Xero

A Xero alternative for Canadian online sellers

Xero is a popular general-purpose ledger, well known to accountants. A Shopify seller usually adds its Shopify connector and a receipt tool. Talisk HQ puts payouts, sales tax by province and inbox capture in one place. Here is the honest difference.

If you sell online in Canada, the work is not the ledger. It is untangling each payout into sales, fees and refunds, getting the right tax on the right province, and chasing the receipts and supplier bills that sit in your inbox.

Talisk starts from your inbox. It reads the invoices and receipts that already arrive there, books your store's payouts as they settle, posts them as real double-entry, closes the month and produces the working papers an accountant would otherwise build by hand. Your data stays yours: export to Xero, QuickBooks, IIF or xlsx whenever you want, for any reason. Talisk HQ is in a closed beta, so you request access rather than sign up today.

Talisk HQ, for one store

One subscription for the ledger, payout reconciliation, the tax worksheet, inbox capture and your email. Plans and what each includes are on the pricing page; the table above shows where they start.

Open the figure, find the email

A shipping cost on the profit and loss opens into the entry that posted it, and that entry opens into the Canada Post email it arrived on. Nothing was attached by hand.

Real screens, over a real set of books.

Ecommerce payouts

The payout is already reconciled

A Shopify payout is sales, less refunds, less processing fees, landing days later as one deposit. Talisk posts each one to the general ledger and matches it to the bank line. Stripe, Square and PayPal payouts follow the same path.

When Talisk is the better choice

If this is your business, you'll feel it quickly

  • You sell online in Canada and your books are perpetually a month behind
  • A payout lands as one number, and splitting out sales, fees and refunds eats your weekend
  • Your invoices, receipts and supplier bills already pile up in your inbox
  • You sell into more than one province and want GST, HST, PST and QST right without becoming a tax expert
  • You'd rather your accountant reviewed the books than rebuilt them
  • You want to know what you made this month, not in April
